Hans is one of the founders (2012) of ONE Risk Advisory. He has built extensive networks and has over 20 years of experience advising clients on audit, risk and finance. He manages the daily operations of ONE Risk Advisory.

Robert Bogtstra

Partner · EQA + Co-sourcing

Robert is a co-founder of ONE Risk Advisory in 2012. He is an expert in governance, internal control and audit, with more than 25 years of practical experience in these fields. He began his career in accountancy and continued it at the Risk Advisory arms of PwC and KPMG, where he gained extensive experience directing internal audit and risk management professionals. Before founding ONE Risk Advisory he was responsible for Jefferson Wells Netherlands.

Robert is also a core lecturer in Corporate Governance at Nyenrode Business University and is accredited by the Institute of Internal Auditors in Internal Audit Quality Assessments. He has extensive experience with various quality-related projects and also conducts research in this area.

Etienne Herlaar

Associate Partner · Governance, Risk & Compliance

Etienne is an expert in governance, risk and compliance in the broadest sense of the term. With an academic background in Finance and Information Management, he has specialised in effectively steering organisations through sound risk management. He gained his experience in the many senior-management roles he has held at multinationals, in the Netherlands and abroad.

His strengths include project management and bridging the gap between Finance and IT. Within ONE Risk Advisory he handles the risk-management engagements and helps companies with their digital transformation. This combination means many clients turn to Etienne to deploy information technology effectively in risk management too.

Etienne is a team player who uses his understanding of people to get the best out of a team. He is characterised above all by a positive attitude and a practical approach.

Thijs Smit

Associate Partner · Internal Audit Leadership

Thijs is a seasoned internal auditor with more than 40 years of experience in internal audit. He was the chief audit executive of six companies and has an international profile. He worked in Brussels and London, led audit teams in the Americas and Asia, and carried out audits on every continent. Thijs lectures in “Managing the Internal Audit Function” at the University of Amsterdam.

Thijs is a member of IIA Netherlands and has served over the past 25 years as committee member, board member and chair of the board. He spent seven years on the Quality Assessment Board, the last three as chair. He is an expert in carrying out quality assessments, coaching and training internal audit management, and performing audit engagements in complex and demanding environments.

Inge Garretsen

Internal Audit & Risk Consultant

Inge is trained as a lawyer and operational auditor. She began her career in financial services focusing on process controls. She then built experience in internal audit and risk management across a wide range of industries. As an Internal Audit & Risk Consultant she supports management in internal audit and risk management and contributes to the performance and continuous development of the organisation by providing insights for further improvement of the organisation and its internal control environment.

She also has extensive experience carrying out quality assessments of Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk Management. Drawing on that experience, she can offer concrete suggestions to further improve the quality of risk management and internal audit, and share relevant “best practices”.

Her strength is that she works from openness and connection, so that difficult topics also become discussable. Through her commitment, constructively critical attitude and strong communication skills, she quickly finds her feet in any organisation.
