Data-driven control / Substantive control
A control approach designed to directly detect material misstatements in transaction data and items at the assertion level. Data-driven control operates independently of the operation of internal control measures and focuses on findings in the ‘facts’ rather than the processes behind them. This is an increasingly used audit approach.
