Materiality

The threshold above which a misstatement could reasonably influence the judgment of users of the financial statements or other audit subject matter. Materiality determines the scope, nature and timing of audit and assurance procedures and is established before detailed testing begins. Auditors use materiality to decide which balances to test, the depth of evidence required and which exceptions require correction.
